How To Avoid Dry Skin In Winter

Winter, the season of the year where the weather is cold and chilly with drying winds. The following article gives you some tips on how to adjust your skincare to suit your needs at this time of year.

Adjust your facial cleanser accordingly

Now that winter is looming, you may need to change your cleanser as your skin may now have differing needs from the hot summer weather. Your skin may be better suited to a creamy type cleanser in the winter time and the foaming kind in the summer, depending on your skin type.

Moisturise your skin

During the winter, your skin can become a lot drier than normal due to the change in weather as well as the central heating indoors. You may need to use a richer moisturiser for your skin at this time of year depending on your skin type. Don’t forget to apply your moisturiser in layers for a more lasting hydrating effect. This is especially true for dry skin types.

Use a Sun block

Using a moisturiser with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 or more can help to protect your skin from the harming rays of the sun. The sun protection factor of your skin care is dependent on your skin’s melanin content and production, the paler your skin and fairer you are in colouring, the higher SPF you will need in order to protect your skin from the sun. Even in the winter the skin can be damaged by exposure to the sun’s rays. There are the UVA rays which age the skin and the UVB rays which burn it. Keep your lips moisturised

Wear gloves

Gloves are really handy to keep your hands and fingers warm, to protect the skin on your hands from the cold winds, which can dry up the skin. You can also wear special cotton gloves on your hands at night after first moisturising your hands and nails, this will help to keep your hands soft and supple while you sleep.

Drink water

Drinking water helps to hydrate the body, hair and nails inside out. In the winter time don’t forget to drink water in order to keep your skin soft, hydrated and help to relieve dryness.
